Bad day, Sunday the boat had began taking on water in the Currituck Sound, according to the Coast Guard. The Coast Guard sent a 29-foot boat and crew from Elizabeth City to help the Cheryl Lynn out of Coinjock after receiving a call from the vessel at about 12:30 p.m. In the meantime, the boater came to the aid of the two people aboard after the the Cheryl Lynn became partially submerged. “Cheryl Lynn’s operator was able to run the vessel soft aground approximately 400 feet outside the navigable waterway in about four feet of water in North Landing River, southeast of Tulls Bay entrance and west of Mackay Island National Wildlife Refuge,” a Coast Guard statement said. About 800 gallons of diesel fuel remained aboard, and the owner contracted TowBoatUS to salvage the boat, the statement said.
