WE'RE BACK - As of yesterday, Saturday 5/16/20, we are now doing guided trips. After being shut down for almost two months, it sure feels good to be able to take folks fishing again. The fishing is good, the run-off is winding down and it's good to be outside and on the water! If you would like to set up a trip or want to know more about the fly fishing in our area, give us a call: (505) 629-5688. 🐟🍀🐟🍀🐟🍀
HIGH WATER = BIG BOWS - The warmer weather the last week or so has brought on the snow-melt. The bigger rainbows are loving it, cruising the edges and chomping on anything that looks appetizing. Pretty good time to throw big bugs and streamers on heavy tippet. Got to put the brakes to em' before they get to the middle of the river! <•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•>
DOWN TO THE RIVER - A beautiful morning hike down to the river last week. It's Earth Day; get outdoors; go fishing! <•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•>
ARCO IRIS - Can't guide? Go fishing! Matt (the newest member of the LOE Guides crew) on the river last week - this dude can catch em' up! <•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•>
SPICY SPRING SPOTS - On a positive note, spring spawn is in the air and a lot of rainbows are matching up in their pebble sized beds. At least they are not having to practice social distancing and tinder date online! <•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•>
FISHING IN THE "BIG LAKE" - Staying at home and going through some old photos... Found these of what Shane @spkarts and I did before guiding. Not fly fishing but wikkid' amazing fishing! Hope everyone is staying healthy and safe. <•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•>
RAM-A-LAMA-DING-DONG - Went for a walk above the Rio yesterday and ran into these guys. They weren't a bit concerned about social distancing. Great to get outside on a beautiful afternoon. There is still beauty and solace in nature; don't get stuck indoors for too long... <•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•>
TYING (NOT GUIDING) - On Tuesday morning the State of New Mexico ordered all "non-essential" businesses to close. The order is to remain in effect until Monday, April 10th. This means that we will not be doing any guided trips until then. We are still answering the phones and emails and taking bookings. Hopefully will be back doing trips on 4/10. Until then we're tying lots of flies for the summer. Please be safe, stay in touch and stay well. <•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•>
WADERING UP - The locals at La Barranca Ranch last week were very interested in the whole fly fishing process. I don't think they were all that impressed with us... <•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•>
GREAT SPRING FISHING! - Just got this picture from a friend in Maine. He said the pot hole fishing has been wikkid' good so far this spring and they have been whacking the heck out of the fish. We're hoping the run holds up for you bud! <•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•>

Longer days and warming weather; springtime fly fishing on our waters here in northern New Mexico/southern Colorado can be awesome!
TROUTFEST 2020 - Saturday, 2/22 and Sunday, 2/23. If you are going to be in the New Braunfels, TX neighborhood either of these days, come and check it out. Lots of fun and it supports TU. We'll be there both days; come by and say wazzup. Long after the memories fade of how many fish you caught; good times with family/friends will be what you remember.
Happy faces in beautiful places. Take some time away from the day to day grind and go fishing a little more in the coming year.
Winter time is a good time to sling around some meat. Fished on a full sink or sink tip fly line, the "Whodat" streamer darts and dives in the water and has caught some very nice Trout, Pike and Bass. Flat brimmed hat not required. WHODAT STREAMER Hook: #2 or 4 Gamakatsu B10S Weight: Medium MFC barbell with red eye Thread: Black 140 Veevus Tail: Magnum barred rabbit strip Under tail: Pearl Flashabou Legs: Silicone sili legs Head: Senyo's lazer dub Tying tips: Tie the lead barbell weight to the top of the hook shank so the fly rides hook point up.
BLUE SKY, BROWNS & BOWS - Perfect winter fishing conditions here in northern New Mexico last week. Couldn't ask for a better day for a busman's holiday/guides day off! <•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•>
Brown, Cutthroat, Rainbow and Brook trout live in the waters we fish. With a little luck and perseverance you could have a trout fishers "grand slam" in a season. How about dry flies only?
SANTA IS A FLY TIER - Apparently he has quite a few awesome patterns. The Kris Kringle Caddis and Saint Nick Stone are a couple we just learned about. Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! <•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•><•>
